Lab 6, Linux - R.G.18

Purpose

The computers in R.G.18 and R.G.19 are used by Computer Science students for programming papers at Level 3 and above.

There are also a few second year papers taught in this lab, plus ENGG182.

Microsoft Imagine

The Microsoft Imagine program (previously known as Microsoft DreamSpark) gives students currently enrolled in any University of Waikato Computer Science paper (including Computer Graphic Design papers) access to a selection of Microsoft software suitable for developers, including Windows and Visual Studio. This software is available free of charge. Students with accounts in Lab 6 can use the Windows machines in Lab 7 or Lab 2 to access Microsoft Imagine if they wish.

Lightwire

In addition to wireless access, there are some wired Lightwire ports available in Labs 6 and 7. These are clearly labelled.

Access

The Part I Computer Laboratories (R-block and S-block Ground floor) are available to enrolled students Monday to Friday 8am to 9pm. A schedule of the laboratory hours of use are posted on the laboratory doors.

Prior to 8am, after 9pm and at weekends, a Cardax 'Swipe' card will be required for access.

Support and Help

The first line of support is your demonstrator. If you're not in a timetabled lab with a demonstrator visit the Linux help pages for technical support.
