Outreach activities
We are passionate about computing, maths and design, and we would love to share this passion with schools and students in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. We offer a range of outreach activities that we can bring to your school, which are fun and help to reinforce the computing and maths curriculum being taught.

Mathematics and Statistics: Chocs and Blocks
Description: This is a fun interactive exercise where students are tasked to estimate the average weight of a piece of chocolate from a large collection of pieces. This reinforces ideas in statistics such as randomisation, sampling, means and graphical representations of data.
Duration: 60-90 minutes

Mathematics and Statistics: Puzzling Paradoxes: How maths solves (almost) everything.
Description: A short or longer (length can be varied to time) fun and informal talk about some common paradoxes, how they arise from poor understanding of mathematics, and how some simple maths solves them.
Duration: 30-60 minutes

Description: We discuss what careers and opportunities are open with a degree in mathematics or data analytics.

Computer Science: Learn how to create games in Gamemaker
Description: Students will create their own game during the workshop and learn the basics of creating games using drag and drop coding. No previous coding experience is required.

Computer Science and Design: Using code to produce creative graphics
Description: Students will write code to produce creative graphical output using different techniques. It will give students a chance to see if coding is something they might be interested in. No previous coding experience is required.

Computer Science: Learn how to create a website using HTML and CSS
Description: Students will hand craft a website using HTML and CSS code. Students will learn the basics of page layout and using CSS to style the page and how to use various input controls and embed a google map. No previous coding experience is required.

Computer Science: Making websites interactive using Javascript
Description: Students will learn how to make a webpage interactive using javascript. Students will learn how to dynamically add new elements to the webpage and handle user events. Students should have a basic understanding of HTML and CSS.

Computer Science: Learning to code using scratch and Robotics
Description: Students will learn the very basics of coding using paper based activities, coding apps and finally learn how to code a robot to perform a dance routine.
