9 Feb 2021 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Presenter/Speaker: Neda Sharifi

In spite of its long history of success as a powerful and versatile control technique, the model predictive control (MPC) has continued attracting strong interest from both industry and academia, and being utilized across a broad range of application domains. The attention has been mainly focused on computational efficiency, closed-loop performance, and the time required to develop an MPC solution by constructing suitable prediction models. This presentation aims at providing a foundational treatment of the theory and design of MPC. This includes the theoretical background that leads to successful implementation of MPC in practice, the main elements that appear in any MPC formulation, the state-of-the-art MPC algorithms, as well as a summary of key advantages and potential challenges. The last part of the talk will be dedicated to the application of MPC in diverse fields where several use cases will be presented including some from the speaker’s current research in nanomedicines.
