Mathematics Seminar: When two islands become one? (Or not.)

23 Mar 2023 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Presenter/Speaker: Han Gan, Mathematics Department, Waikato University
Location: G.3.33

Consider your two favourite islands and their respective populations. For example the North Island and South Island, or Australia and New Zealand. We're interested in the genetic diversity of individuals on these two islands. Assuming that there is some level of immigration between the two islands, do we expect the individual islands to keep their individual characteristics or will the two islands mix and effectively become one?

This is joint work with Maite Wilke-Berenguer (Humbolt), Nathan Ross (Melbourne) and Adrian Rollin (Singapore).
