3 May 2019 2:10 PM - 3:00 PM
Presenter/Speaker: Dr Murray Pearson, CEO, Virscient
Location: G.1.15

Wireless Technologies has completely revolutionised the way that we interact with the world in recent times. The most observable of these interactions is our use of smartphones, but there are many less obvious applications including everything from the use of sensors to monitor vital signs in real time through to delivering high-speed broadband to remote communities. This talk will cover my journey working with wireless technologies over the past twenty years to demonstrate some of the applications that wireless technologies are being used and to challenges that have presented themselves along the way.

Dr Murray Pearson has worked both in academia and industry for more than twenty years developing and using wireless technologies to have positive outcomes on peoples lives. Murray has a PhD from Massey University in Computer Science and lectured Computer Science at the University of Waikato for 17 years where he also led the Connecting Rural Communities project. Murray is the current CEO at Virscient which provides Wireless engineering services for audio, automotive, and industrial applications. Prior to joining Virscient 12 months ago, he helped to found Lightwire, a Waikato based ISP and lead its rural team develop and provide wireless Broadband solutions to Rural Communities across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions.
