The talk specifically covers the process Origins used to design and roll out the ApiTrak system, a cloud-based software for the honey industry. It also covers an overview of the ApiTrak system, the reasons why particular hardware and software were chosen, as well as, reasons why it is essential for senior management who may not have a technical background to involve technical staff in all aspects of the design.

BIO:
Duncan Williamson started in telecommunication industry in the 70s and by the 80s was involved in network design predominantly copper networks but also fibre toll and junction networks. He then moved to a regional authority in the early 90s as a network administrator and designed a new Ethernet network with a fibre backbone to replace the coax and serial line VAX terminals. Concurrently with this, Duncan also worked as a volunteer with the ambulance service and moved from IT to the emergency services as a Paramedic/Station manager. He did not completely keep his hands out of the IT field as he designed and built a web based rostering system for the volunteer ambulance staff. He left the ambulance service to take up a position setting up a distribution warehouse and wrote a tablet based warehouse management system for this. He then joined  Origins software as a director/CTO to produce traceability software for the honey industry enabling tracing product from the hive to the consumer. During this time Duncan's software made it to the finals of the NZ High Tech Awards in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
