BSc in Computer Science
Graduate Applications Developer, Radfords Software
Prior to studying the BSc in Computer Science, I held a Bachelor of Internal Communications from Unitec and was working in Management and Administration. Throughout my career I had always enjoyed work related to IT and when I decided to look for a new direction, IT was an obvious choice for me.
I was based in Tauranga, so when I heard about the Bachelor’s degree with Waikato University through the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, I jumped at the chance to begin my studies in the IT world.
Between my second and third year I began an internship during the summer holidays with Radford Software. As a result of that internship, I was offered my current role as a graduate applications developer. A typical day involves a mix of programming and client support related to areas of code I have created. As Radfords follows the Agile model we also have a daily stand-up and regular planning meetings and use the Kanban board model to track work. For new projects or testing I may also go out to client’s sites to gather information and test functionality.
My degree enabled me to pursue new career interests, learn new skills and ensured that when I got to the workforce I was prepared. At Radfords I use skills I learnt at Waikato every day!
